North Indian Canyon Drive Widening

Project Overview


Phase 1

Limits: 20th Avenue to 18th Avenue
Length: 4,000 feet (0.75 miles)
District: 4
City: Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs

The County of Riverside Transportation Department, in cooperation with the City of Desert Hot Springs, City of Palm Springs, and Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG), is proposing to widen approximately 3,100 feet of roadway and reconstruct approximately 900 feet of a portion of the north bound lane along North Indian Canyon Drive from 20th Avenue to 18th Avenue. North Indian Canyon Drive is currently a two lane road that ranges from 40-86 feet wide with curb/gutter and sidewalk along various segments of the roadway. The proposed improvements will add one lane of travel in each direction and consists of excavating the roadway and placing back Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) over Class II Aggregate Base.

Additional improvements include:

  • Construction of new curb and gutter

  • Placement of safety edge and shoulder backing

  • Utility relocations and adjustments

  • Bike lane

  • Striping of roadway, including pavement markers and reflectors

  • Salvage/removal and installation of new signs

Right-of-way has been required to construct the proposed improvements.

PHASE 1 project schedule

  • Environmental Clearance: January 2018

  • Final Design: July 2018

  • Construction Start: May 2019

  • Construction End: August 2019

 

 

Phase 2

Limits: 18th Avenue to Dillon Road
Length: 3,000 feet (0.60 miles)
District: 5
Community: North Palm Springs

The County of Riverside Transportation Department, in cooperation with the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG), is proposing to widen North Indian Canyon Drive between 18th Avenue and Dillon Road as well as install a new traffic signal at the intersection of North Indian Canyon Drive and Dillon Road. The westerly, northerly, and easterly legs of the intersection at North Indian Canyon Drive and Dillon Road will be widened as well. North Indian Canyon Drive is currently a two lane road with curb/gutter and dike along various segments of the roadway. The proposed improvements will add one lane of travel in each direction and consists of excavating the roadway and placing back Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) over Class II Aggregate Base.

Additional improvements include:

  • Reconstruction of block wall and relocated chain link fence

  • Reconstruction and construction of asphalt concrete dike

  • Construction of new curb and gutter, spandrel and cross gutter, curb ramps, driveway, and dip section

  • Placement of safety edge and shoulder backing

  • Utility relocations and adjustments

  • Bike lane

  • Striping of roadway, including pavement markers and reflectors

  • Salvage/removal and installation of new signs

Right-of-way has been required to construct the proposed improvements.

 Phase 2 Schedule:

  • Environmental Clearance: January 2018

  • Final Design: Winter 2020

  • Construction Start: July 6, 2021

  • Construction End: December 2021
