Chicago Avenue Reconstruction

Limits: Palm Avenue to Cedar Avenue
Length: Approximately 4,000 feet
District: 3
Community: Valle Vista

The County of Riverside Transportation Department is proposing to reconstruct approximately 4,000 feet of Chicago Avenue from Palm Avenue to Cedar Avenue. Chicago Avenue is classified as a local road in the County of Riverside’s General Plan. Chicago Avenue is a two lane road and currently ranges from 25-64 feet wide with curb/gutter along various segments of the roadway. The proposed project will include removing the roadway, treating the base and underlying material with cement, and placing back Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Asphalt Rubber Hot Mix (ARHM).

The proposed project will also include:

  • Reconstruction of concrete curb/gutter, cross gutter, spandrel, and ADA deficient curb ramps

  • Construction of asphalt concrete overside drain

  • Replacement of corrugated metal pipe

  • Placement of safety edge and shoulder backing

  • Utility adjustments

  • Striping of roadway to include bike lanes and center median

  • Salvage/removal and installation of new signs

No additional right-of-way will be required to construct the proposed improvements. The project improvements will remain within the existing footprint of the roadway and will not raise the existing roadway profile.
