Project Overview
The County of Riverside Transportation Department is proposing to extend Markham Street between Roosevelt Street and Wood Road for approximately 1.3 miles to improve traffic circulation within the community. Markham Street’s ultimate classification is a secondary highway in the County of Riverside's General Plan but full build-out of the ultimate roadway is not planned at this time. The proposed extension project will construct a roadway section consisting of one travel lane in each direction, Class II bike lanes in each direction, and sidewalk on the south side along with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant pedestrian access ramps at intersections with cross streets.
The proposed project will also include:
Modification of the traffic signal at the intersection of Markham Street and Wood Road to accommodate the addition of a dedicated eastbound left-turn lane, a dedicated eastbound through lane, and a shared through and right-turn lane.
Construction of concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk along the south side.
Construction and modifications of driveways to connect the adjacent properties to the proposed improvements.
Construction of an earthen channel along the north side and other drainage improvements including culverts to direct drainage flow across the roadway, and storm drain piping and catch basins to collect flows along the roadway.
Utility relocations and adjustments
Installation of roadway striping, pavement markings, and signage
