Project Overview

 The Riverside County Transportation Department will remove and rehabilitate approximately 1.75 miles of damaged roadway in the community of East Hemet on Girard Street from the Ramona Bowl to Florida Avenue (State Highway 74).  The project will begin in early February 2023 and is expected to be completed in April 2023.

Work includes removing the existing asphalt concrete roadway and underlying material; replacing it with cement stabilized soil; paving the roadway with HMA (hot mix asphalt); and adding roadway striping and signage.

Cross gutters and ADA sidewalk improvements in the project area will take place as part of a different County project during the same time frame.

What to Expect

• Work will be completed in sections beginning on the southern end of Girard Street from Ramona Bowl to Stetson Avenue.

• Crews will complete one section at a time, moving north on Girard Street to Florida Avenue.

• Residents and businesses can expect noise normally associated with construction including large machinery, beeping, engines running and crews communicating.

Traffic control

• From Ramona Bowl to Stetson Avenue, motorists should expect lane closures with traffic flaggers to assist residents in and out of driveways.

• Full road closures are planned on sections of Girard Street from Stetson Avenue to Florida Avenue with detours in place.

• The speed limit will be reduced to 30 MPH on Girard Street Please travel with caution and use alternate routes when available.

Monday – Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
No work planned during weekends and County holidays.
Work schedules may change due to weather or field conditions.
