GILMAN SPRINGS ROAD UPDATE - Week of October 28

GILMAN SPRINGS ROAD UPDATE - Week of October 28

Thank you for your patience during the Gilman Springs Road closure, crucial for public and crew safety as we complete this important project. The road closure is crucial for public and crew safety to complete this important project. Please allow extra travel time for delays due to this and other on-going construction projects nearby.

Crews are working day and night to construct:

• A 1-mile northbound passing lane

• A widened, raised concrete center median

• A drainage culvert and wildlife crossing

• Drainage and shoulder improvements

Phase 1 Project Update

• Edison relocated utility poles for shoulder widening. (Photo 2 and 3)

• Roadway work should be 50% complete.

• The Bridge Street culvert and wildlife crossing are 60% done. (Photo 1)

• Center median work begins next week and will be completed by November 21.

We understand the inconvenience caused by the road closure and appreciate your patience during construction. County of Riverside Transportation, Caltrans, and neighboring cities are working together to monitor traffic and adjust traffic signaling where possible to improve traffic flow.

Construction progress continues during Gilman Springs Road closure

Construction progress continues during Gilman Springs Road closure.

Construction activities include

  • Widening the roadway shoulders and center median.

  • Constructing a concrete center median in the closure area.

  • Placing concrete on the drainage box culvert and wildlife crossing at Bridge Street.

  • Relocating Edison poles to accommodate the shoulder and median widening.

In addition to the shoulder and median widening work, the County of Riverside Transportation Department will be installing a raised concrete center median from approximately Kennedy Hill Road to Alessandro Boulevard, and guard rail at various locations.

The 8-inch-high and 22-inch-wide concrete center median will be similar the one on Ramona Expressway. It will include drainage gaps and reflective markers, and driveway access will remain at existing locations.

PLEASE NOTE: Construction will continue during the full road closure through Nov. 21. Crews will work off the roadway through the holidays, and an additional road closure south of Bridge Street is planned in January 2025.

Motorists are encouraged to use the posted detour on Highway 79 to SR-60. The County of Riverside traffic department is monitoring the detour and local county roadways to make all possible adjustments to traffic signal timing. They are also coordinating with Caltrans and the cities of Hemet and San Jacinto to address traffic impacts.

Thank you for your patience during this important roadway construction project. We recognize the inconvenience during the full road closure and crews are working multiple shifts day and night to minimize public impact.
