Cherry Valley

I-10 Cherry Valley Interchange

Project Overview

The City of Calimesa (City), in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the County of Riverside (County), proposes to upgrade and reconfigure the existing Interstate 10 (I-10)/Cherry Valley Boulevard Interchange. The project is located on I-10, between the Singleton Road and Oak Valley Parkway interchanges. Three alternatives were evaluated: Alternative 1 (No Build), Alternative 3 (Diverging Diamond Interchange), Alternative 4 (Partial Cloverleaf Interchange). Key components of the project would include the widening of Cherry Valley Boulevard (including the I-10 overcrossing), realignment and reconstruction of on- and off-ramps, addition of auxiliary lanes along I-10 in both the eastbound and westbound directions, and provisions for sidewalks and bicycle facilities along Cherry Valley Boulevard within the project limits.

The environmental clearance phase was completed on November 2, 2023. The City will work in conjunction with Caltrans to complete the remaining phases of the project without assistance from the County.

Two interchange design build alternatives were considered for the project. Alternative 3, the Diverging Diamond Interchange, was selected for final design.

  • Alternative 3: (Selected) A diverging diamond interchange that crosses each direction of traffic to the opposite side of the overpass. This alternative provides two through lanes in each direction, optimizes left-turn movements and reduces vehicle conflict points.

  • Alternative 4: A partial cloverleaf configuration that would accommodate two through lanes in each direction along Cherry Valley Boulevard and realigns the on- and off-ramps while adding a loop on-ramp in the westbound direction.

Both alternatives include bicycle and pedestrian facilities and the realignment of Calimesa Boulevard to improve intersection spacing and operation.PHASE 1 project schedule
